Postage for Pluto

A www petition initiated by NASA scientists is pushing for new postage stamp for the dwarf planet and is hoping to hit at least 100.000 signatures by March 13th, which is the 82nd anniversary of Pluto's discovery.

The Artist Dan Durda concepted a U.S. postage stamp honoring the New Horizons mission to Pluto. The probe's team has launched an online petition to make the stamp a reality:

37.895 pieces of a most spectacular collection of coins relating to the entirety of Spanish history went on display Tuesday in New York for an auction organized by Sotheby's next month.

The coins are and valued between US$25 million and US$35 million. They will be sold in a single batch in a sealed bid auction that ends March 8.

Fierce Dragon

The Chinese postage stamp depicting a dragon – designed by Chen Shaohua – has drawn sharp criticism on the nation's microblogs, with many saying it puts too frightening a face on their rising country. In defense, Chen Shaohua, said the fierce-looking dragon represents China’s growing confidence.

London Calling

Two British students – Saiman Miah and Pippa Sanderson – have had the honour of designing the official UK coins to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The winning designs were selected following a Royal Mint competition for art and design students attending higher education colleges and universities across the UK.

His design features the London skyline and the River Thames, with the pictograms of athletes placed around the outside of the design like a clock face, representing one of London’s greatest icons - Big Ben.

Ancient coins found in Jerusalem

As the Washington Post reports the four bronze coins were stamped around 17 A.D. by the Roman official Valerius Gratus. The coins were found inside a ritual bath that predated construction of the renovated Temple Mount complex.

This newly found coins underneath Jerusalem’s Western Wall could change the accepted belief about the construction of one of the world’s most sacred sites two millennia ago, Israeli archaeologists say.
